The Review Panel for the North Carolina Medical Board (NCMB) was established in 2008 by state statute to review all applicants for the physician, physician assistant, and nurse practitioner positions on the North Carolina Medical Board. The Review Panel reviews applicants under criteria established by the statute. The Review Panel for the NCMB operates under its own Bylaws (see below).
Applicants recommended by the Review Panel are forwarded to the Governor for consideration. The Governor appoints Board members as provided in N.C. Gen. Stat. §90-2. The Review Panel attempts to make its recommendations to the Governor reflect the composition of the State with regard to gender, ethnic, racial and age composition.
The Review Panel for the NCMB consists of nine members, including four from the North Carolina Medical Society, one from the Old North State Medical Society, one from the North Carolina Osteopathic Medical Association, one from the North Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants, one from the North Carolina Nurses Association Council of Nurse Practitioners, and one public member currently serving on the Medical Board.
The next meeting of the Review Panel will be on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the Rizzo Conference Center, Chapel Hill, NC. Time to be determined.
